NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Mount Holyoke sophomore Ioanna Tsoni broke her own team record in the long jump on her first attempt, and then again on her sixth and final attempt, in capturing first place Friday at the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

With a top mark of 5.90 meters, or 19 feet and 4.25 inches, Tsoni won the New England title by a margin of 5.5 inches over Middlebury's Mackenzie Daggitt, and exceeded the record she set a week ago to win the NEWMAC title by 5.75 inches.

Tsoni's mark ties as the 11th-best in Division III entering the weekend.

Also on Friday, Tsoni qualified for the 100 hurdles finals with her prelimary heat time of 15.02 seconds, seventh fastest in a field of 27. The finals will take place Saturday at 12:40pm.

Seniors Elizabeth Gerbi (Orono, Maine) and Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 11th and 13th, respectively, among 27 competitors in the 10,000 meters, with season-best times of 39:20.18 and 39:26.48.

Junior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) took 14th place in the long jump at 5.19 meters (17'0.5").

Mount Holyoke will have competitors in the 400 hurdles, 800 meters, triple jump, 100 hurdles finals, 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay, and 4x800 relay on Saturday at the meet.
