Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Jan. 28th

RIDING

The equestrian team returned to action last Saturday, traveling to Virginia to compete in the final leg of the Tournament of Champions Series. MHC finished 11th overall at the Winter Tournament event and concluded the series with third place overall. The Lyons are back in action on February 23rd, when they compete at the UMass Horse Show.

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Lyons (6-3) shouldered a 190-104 loss at Wellesley last weekend. First year Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.) paced MHC with three individual victories and a relay win for the second straight week. Mount Holyoke is back in the pool on Saturday when it hosts Smith at the MHC Natatorium, beginning at 1pm.

BASKETBALL

Mount Holyoke was 0-2 last week with a pair of tough losses to the conference's best teams. The Lyons fell to Smith (65-44) and #22/#24 Babson (70-52) but saw senior guard Angelica Pascual (Lawrence, Mass.) average 13.0 points on the week.  The Lyons (4-13; 2-10 NEWMAC) return to action on Wednesday when they host Clark at 7pm at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. That contest is not only the Game of the Week, but also the team's Play 4Kay game. MHC closes out the week with a game at MIT on Saturday (3pm).

SQUASH

Mount Holyoke (5-7) was 2-2 in last week's action. The Lyons opened the week with a win over Connecticut College (6-3). MHC then fell to #19 Hamilton (6-3) and #14 Franklin & Marshall (7-2) before beating #34 Northeastern (9-0) at the 2013 Hamilton Invitational. Junior Shaheen Madraswala (Mumbai, India) posted a 3-0 record at the Invite and a 4-0 overall record for the week.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they host the 2013 Seven Sisters Championship at the MHC Squash Courts in the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex. Competition begins at 10am.

TRACK & FIELD

The Lyons were 10th overall at the Springfield Invitational last week. First year Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill.) paced MHC at the meet, re-setting her own school record in the 60-meter dash (8.03; placed 3rd overall), while also winning the long jump (5.29 meters). Additionally, Coklow qualified for the Division III New England and ECAC DIII Championships in both events.

Mount Holyoke is back to the track on Saturday, when it competes at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic, hosted by Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. Action begins at 12pm.
