Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 1st

RIDING

Mount Holyoke saw seven riders advance to the Zone I Championships as the Lyons earned High Point College honors at the Zone I, Region III Championships at Smith last weekend. Additionally, Felicia Harrsch, Clara Tate, Olivia Chance and Morgan Cooley all garnered Regional Champion honors for winning their respective events.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they host the 2013 Zone I Championships at the MHC Equestrian Center.

TRACK & FIELD

MHC hosted its Spring Fling Invitational on Saturday and a number of outstanding performances led the way at the non-team scoring meet. Sophomore Dana Fry led the way, capturing victory in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 19:29.97. That mark was nearly 12 seconds better than the second-place finisher.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they compete at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International College.

LACROSSE

The Lyons shouldered their first conference loss of the season last week, falling by a 17-14 margin at Wellesley. MHC was led by first year Julia Bell, who tallied a game-best seven goals, including four in the second half, with an assist and a game-high two caused turnovers.

Mount Holyoke (6-2; 1-1 NEWMAC) returns to action on Thursday, when it travels to Western Connecticut State for a 6pm contest. The Lyons then return home on Saturday to face NEWMAC-rival MIT at the MHC Turf Field at 12pm. That contest is also the featured Game of the Week! CREW

Mount Holyoke bested Bryant on Saturday as the Lyons varsity eight boats posted a 1-2 finish over the Bulldogs top varsity boat on the Connecticut River. MHC returns to the water on Sunday when it competes in Medford, Mass., against Tufts, Hamilton and Tulane.

TENNIS

The Lyons (7-6) kicked-off their spring home schedule in style on Saturday, defeating Endicott (5-4) and Lesley (9-0). Senior My-Linh Nguyen went 4-0 on the day, posting 2-0 records in both singles and doubles action.

Mount Holyoke returns to the courts on Saturday when it welcomes Connecticut College (10:30am) and Rensselaer (2pm) to the MHC Tennis Courts.
