Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Apr. 8th


Mount Holyoke remains idle until Nationals, which will take place from May 2-5 in Harrisburg, Pa., at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. The Lyons will send a team of eight riders and five individuals to this year's event.


MHC competed at the multi-divisional Minuteman Invitational on Saturday, hosted by UMass-Amherst. Leading the way was first year Camille Coklow, who was fourth in the 100-dash and ninth in the 200-dash. Several other performers had top-10 marks to lead the Lyons to 18th overall at the meet.

The squad returns to action on Friday and Saturday when it competes at the Aloha Relays, hosted by Bowdoin College.


The Lyons went 1-1 last week, downing Bridgewater State, 16-10, before shouldering a heartbreaking 10-9 loss to NEWMAC-foe Wheaton. Senior Molly Macdonald led the way, recording 11 goals on the week, including a career-best seven against the Bears.

Mount Holyoke (9-3; 2-2 NEWMAC) concludes its regular season schedule this week with a pair of conference road games. The Lyons visit Smith on Tuesday for a 4:30pm match before wrapping up the regular season on Saturday at Babson in a 1pm game.

Mount Holyoke had an outstanding week on the water at Lake Quinsigamond. The Lyons dominated the action on Saturday, posting wins in both races as the first varsity boat and the novice eight boat both claimed victory over Clark. MHC then competed against Simmons, Clark, Union, Franklin & Marshall and UMass-Lowell on Sunday as the first varsity eight boat took second behind Simmons. The novice eight boat recorded its fourth straight win, battling past Simmons.

The Lyons look to continue their solid effort this weekend when they head back to Worcester for the 2013 NEWMAC Championships. Action gets underway at 8:30am.


The Lyons (10-9) went 2-2 last week and finished third overall at the 2013 Seven Sisters Championship. MHC lost to Wellesley (4-1) and beat Bryn Mawr (4-1) on day one before falling to #25 Vassar (5-0) and beating Smith (5-0) the next day. The Lyons had a number of outstanding performances, including a solid effort at second doubles by My-Linh Nguyen and Michelle Cai, who won three out of four matches at this year's tournament. went 2-0 on the day in singles action to lead the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke concludes its 2012-13 season this weekend at home when it hosts Roger Williams on Saturday at 10:30am at the MHC Tennis Courts. The match will also be Senior Day for the Lyons!


The Lyons golf team returned to the links last weekend as it competed at the Vassar College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The event also served as the inaugural Liberty League Championship. MHC finished fifth overall in the Liberty League standings and ninth in the Invitational standings led by sophomore Madi Mendiola, who was an All-Liberty League First Team selection. She placed fifth overall amongst the league competitors. 

Mount Holyoke is back in action this weekend when it participates in the Jake Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College. Day one of action on Saturday will be held in Amherst, while day two will commence at the Orchards - MHC's own course - on Sunday.
