Rowing races well against Pacific Lutheran, with a win for Lyons' 2V8

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team's second varsity eight won convincingly and the Lyons' first varsity eight lost by a 4.85-second margin, as both boats raced head-to-head against their counterparts from Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday morning, April 11, on Lake Quinsigamond.

Rowing into a 15-mph tailwind with rough water over the second half of the 2,000-meter course, the Lyons' 1V8, with junior Tobin Mayo-Kiely (Anchorage, Alaska) as coxswain, finished in 7:18.97 to 7:14.12 for PLU's 1V8.

Racing concurrently with the 1V8's, the Lyons' 2V8, coxed by sophomore Adee Cooper (Dunbarton, N.H.), finished in 7:56.56, over 37 seconds ahead of the Lutes' 2V8.

Mount Holyoke is slated to race again next Saturday in New London, Conn., against Coast Guard and Massachusetts Maritime.
