Lyons' two eights both defeat opponents in NERC afternoon finals

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke rowing team's first varsity eight defeated Clark in its afternoon final, while its second varsity eight placed third out of five boats in its afternoon final on Saturday at the New England Rowing Championships.

The Lyons' 1V8, coxed by junior Tobin Mayo-Kiely (Anchorage, Alaska), finished its morning heat in sixth place out of six boats with a time of 7:51.830, trailing Clark by less than four seconds. In the 1V8 Third Final, Mount Holyoke turned the tables on Clark to defeat the Cougars 7:26.207 to 7:31.081 for fifth place among six boats.

The Mount Holyoke 2V8, coxed by sophomore Adee Cooper (Dunbarton, N.H.), finished fifth in its morning heat well behind fourth-place Coast Guard with a time of 8:22.874. The boat improved its time vastly in the 2V8 Third Final to 8:00.520, to take third place out of five boats ahead of both Merrimack (8:07.995) and Bryant (8:19.075).

Mount Holyoke will race at the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Sunday May 10 in Worcester.
