WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team fielded two eights Sunday at the National Invitational Rowing Championships, highlighted by the Lyons' first eight defeating the University of New Hampshire in its afternoon Third Level Final.
Coxswained by junior Tobin Mayo-Kiely (Anchorage, Alaska), Mount Holyoke's 1V8 finished sixth out of six boats in its morning heat, outpaced by the fifth-place University of Rochester by 22 seconds with a time of 8:00.885 over 2,000 meters.
The Lyons' top boat moved on to the afternoon 1V8 Third Level Final and placed sixth among seven boats in a time of 8:04.316, trailing fifth-place St. Lawrence by less than two seconds and beating New Hampshire (8:09.114) by more than four seconds.
Coxswained by sophomore Adee Cooper (Dunbarton, N.H.), the MHC 2V8 finished its morning heat in sixth place among six boats with a time of 8:44.116. The boat moved on to the Third Level Final, where it placed fifth among five boats in 8:54.080, trailing fourth-place Skidmore (8:44.664).
