Swimming and diving takes fourth place at Skidmore Sprint Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team posted several impressive marks against strong competition, as they took fourth place among six teams at the Skidmore Sprint Invitational on Saturday.

The Lyons finished behind Skidmore, Vassar, and Hartwick and ahead of SUNY Delhi and Bard in the women's team standings at the meet.

Mount Holyoke's top-eight event finishes included:

  • Sophomore Katherine Upton (Cambridge, Mass.) placed second out of six competitors in 3-meter diving with 190.55 points; Upton was third out of six divers on the 1-meter board (183.30 points).
  • Junior Isabel Dunn (Harbor Springs, Mich.) placed third out of 14 swimmers in the 50-yard butterfly (28.92 seconds), fifth out of 14 in the 100 butterfly (1:03.50), and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle 2:10.35.
  • First-year Ellie Lewis (Spencer, Ind.) placed sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.37), eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.92), and eighth in the 400-yard individual medley (5:13.92).
  • Junior Madeline Hood (The Colony, Texas) placed seventh out of 24 swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.79 seconds.
  • First-year Evelyn Rousseau (Hudsonville, Mich.) placed eighth in the 500-yard freestyle, in 5:51.90.
  • First-year Maya Oakes (Pine Bush, N.Y.) placed eighth in the 100-yard backstroke, in 1:05.76.
  • First-year Katie Thomason (Alexandria, Va.) placed eighth out of 18 in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.71).

The Lyons will host Smith College in their last home meet of the season on Saturday, Feb. 7 starting at 11am.
