SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day for three student-athletes in their final home meet on Saturday, as the Lyons went head-to-head against Smith College. The visiting Bears outscored the Lyons 220-75 in team scoring.
Present and honored at their final home meet were MHC seniors and four-year team members Sophie Allen (Lopez Island, Wash.), Molly Malloy (Atlanta, Ga.), and Kellyn Norman (Franklinton, N.C.).
In the pool, some of MHC's standout performances included:
- Junior Isabel Dunn (Harbor Springs, Mich.) took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.67, edging Smith's Abby Caputo by 0.09.
- First-year Katie Thomason (Alexandria, Va.) finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:46.42.
- Sophomore Katherine Upton (Cambridge, Mass.) finished third out of four competitors in 3-meter diving with 370.55 points on 11 dives. Upton also scored 335.95 points while placing fourth on the 1-meter board.
"We're dealing with some injuries and illnesses, so it was a bit of a rough day," reported head coach Dave Allen. "We're starting to taper and getting ready for NEWMACs."
The NEWMAC Championships will take place Feb. 19-22 at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
