Cross Country Places 5th at Keene State Invitational

KEENE, N.H. - Behind three top-25 finishes, the Mount Holyoke College cross country team placed fifth of 14 teams at the 2014 Keene State Invitational. The Lyons were paced for the third straight meet by sophomore Becca Rogers, who was fourth overall in a field of 156 runners.

Rogers (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prepatory School) posted a time of 19:08 in the 5k event to lead Mount Holyoke. She was followed by senior captain Dana Fry (Tempe, Ariz./Miss Porter's School (Conn.)), who was 20th in the team placing (23rd overall) on the afternoon with a time of 20:22.

Sophomore Hannah Rickard (Traverse, Mich./Traverse City) was 24th (28th overall) with a time of 20:39, while classmate Brianna Weir (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) ran to 33rd (44th overall) with a time of 21:17.

First year Tabitha Crowell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury School) finished 44th (60th overall) with a mark of 22:02, while sophomore Emma Tolerton (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and first year Kelly Stevens were 49th (75th overall) and 53rd (84th overall), respectively with times of 22:51 and 23:10.

Individually, the Lyons saw first year Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School) place 95th with a time of 23:45. Classmate Maria Lewis (Boston, Mass./Fenway) was 120th with a mark of 25:32, while fellow rookie Gargi Mishra (Maharashtra, India/The Bishop's School) placed 140th, crossing the line in a time of 27:25.

Keene State claimed victory at this year's event with 34 points, followed by Brandeis (53), Springfield (84), Amherst (118) and Mount Holyoke (125). Individually, Brandeis's Maddie Dolins powered her way to victory with a time of 18:46.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend, competing in the Open New England Championships on Saturday in Franklin Park, Mass.
