Cross Country Finishes 5th at NEWMAC Championship

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Highlighted by a ninth-place finish from sophomore Becca Rogers, the Mount Holyoke College cross country team finished fifth of 10 competing schools at Saturday's NEWMAC Championship, hosted by Smith College. The Lyons saw three runners in the top 30 at today's event.

Rogers paced the way for the Lyons, garnering NEWMAC All-Conference honors after placing ninth overall with a time of 18:56. Junior Elizabeth DeLeon ran to 23rd (21st in team placing) in the meet, posting a time of 19:38, while senior Dana Fry finished 32nd (29th in team placing) with a mark of 20:07.

First year Sunny Shan placed 41st (35th in team placing) on the afternoon, crossing the line in 20:25, while junior Hannah Rickard was close behind in 42nd (36th in team placing) with a time of 20:25 as well. Sophomore Brianna Weir was 66th (51st in team placing) on the day with a time of 21:09, while first year Mia Barnes rounded out the team efforts in 84th (62nd in team placing), posting a time of 21:52.

Also performing strong for the Lyons individually was first year Kelly Stevens, who was 99th overall with a time of 22:33. Sophomore Emma Tolerton was 110th (23:02), followed by first year Caroline Black, who was 111th (23:04). First year Mishra Gargi rounded out the efforts in 141st place (26:43).

The Lyons return to action on Saturday, November 15th at the NCAA New England Regional Championship, hosted at Williams College at 12:30pm.
