SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College saw four runners finish in the top-10 to power the Blue to the team title at the 2014 Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship, hosted by Mount Holyoke College. The Blue recorded 36 points, paced by the individual champion, Priyanka Fouda.
Fouda (Wellesley Hills, Mass./Wellesley) posted a time of 22:45 to win the title at this year's 6k event. Bryn Mawr College's Hannah Hastings (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal School) was the runner-up, posting a time of 22:51 for second. Rounding out the top three was Wellesley's Mary Keenan (Boerne, Texas/Boerne-Samuel V. Champion), who recorded a time of 22:52.
Vassar College's Cassidy Carpenter (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View) was fourth overall with a time of 22:58, followed by Smith College's Kathleen Ferrall (Guilford, Conn./Guilford), who crossed the line with a mark of 22:59. Mount Holyoke's Becca Rogers (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prepatory School) took the sixth-place spot with a time of 23:10, while Taylor Bickford (Limington, Maine/Bonny Eagle) of Wellesley was seventh with a time of 23:13.
In ninth was Vassar's Meghan Willcoxon (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), who posted a time of 23:16, while Smith's Danielle Opatovsky (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading) rounded out the top-10 and this year's All-Tournament Team with a mark of 23:21.
Wellesley earned this year's victory with 36 points. It marks the second title for the Blue in the last three years and the 10th in program history. Vassar, which had won three of the last four championships, finished second with 56 points. The Brewers have now earned three second-place finishes in tournament history.
Smith took the third-place spot in the team category, posting 95 points, while the host Lyons were fourth – just one point out of third – with 96 points. Bryn Mawr took fifth overall with 103 points, followed by Saint Catherine (127) and Simmons College (210).
