Cross Country Competes at Open New England Championships

 

FRANKLIN PARK, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College cross country team saw 12 runners compete on Saturday at the multi-divisional Open New England Championships, held at Franklin Park. Leading the Lyons' efforts was sophomore Becca Rogers, who finished 103rd overall in a field of 262 runners. 

Rogers (Tucson, Ariz./St. Gregory College Prepatory School) posted a time of 118:56.96 in the 5k event to lead way. She was followed by senior captain Dana Fry (Tempe, Ariz./Miss Porter's School (Conn.)), who was 175th on the afternoon with a time of 19:55.47.

Sophomore Hannah Rickard (Traverse, Mich./Traverse City) was 199th with a time of 20:15.49, while junior Elizabeth DeLeon (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) ran to 227th with a time of 20:41.22. First year Sunny Shan (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) placed 233rd with a mark of 20:49.03, while sophomore Brianna Weir (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) was 251st with a time of 21:24.81. Rounding out the team efforts in the varsity race was sophomore Emma Tolerton (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery), who placed 258th with a time of 22:30.72.

In the sub-varsity 5k, first year Tabitha Crowell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury School) finished 248th with a time of 22:23.09.  Classmate Kelly Stevens was 260th with a time of 22:38.18, while fellow first years Mia Barnes (Thornville, Ohio/Monteverde Friends School), Caroline Black (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill Bishop Ludden) and Maria Lewis (Boston, Mass./Fenway) were 262nd (22:45.66), 290th (23:42.28) and 301st (36:03.00), respectively.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they host the 2014 Seven Sisters Championship at the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex. Action begins at 11am.
