With 12th year head coach Dave Allen leading the way, the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team posted a dual meet record of 4-4 in 2009-10. The Lyons defeated Westfield State College, Western Connecticut State University, Elms College and Simmons College.
Mount Holyoke secured a third place finish in front of its home crowd at the Seven Sisters Championships. First year Joan Burton, senior Lindsay Schonborn, sophomore Lydia Bowers and first year Nora Cunningham each collected All-Championship honors. After recording a first place time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.76), Burton teamed with Schonborn, Bowers and Cunningham to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:45.75).
The Lyons then rounded out their season with an eighth place finish at the NEWMAC Championships. Schonborn figured in on seven of Mount Holyoke's eight school records over the course of the weekend.
In addition to establishing individual bests in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.79), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.02) and the 50-yard breaststroke (32.65), she contributed to four record setting relay performances.
After teaming with Burton, Bowers and sophomore Sarah Rooney in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.09), she combined with Burton, Bowers and Cunningham in the 400-yard medley relay (4:07.12). The senior was joined by Burton, Rooney and Bowers in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:06.36) and Burton, Bowers and Cunningham in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:41.32).
Burton came up with the Lyons final record of the weekend in the 100-yard butterfly (59.11).
Over the course of the season, Schonborn racked up 24 first place finishes. The senior was dominant in the breaststroke events as well as the 200-yard individual medley. She teamed with Burton, Bowers and junior Michelle Kroll to record three victories in the 200-yard medley relay.
Mount Holyoke also received a boost from Bowers, who posted a team best nine relay victories. Individually, the sophomore tallied a pair of wins in the 100-yard freestyle and one triumph in the 50-yard freestyle. Burton and Cunningham contributed nine wins apiece, while Rooney added seven.
