SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Abby McAllister scored five goals and Hannah Warnke added four as the U.S. Coast Guard Academy stayed undefeated in NEWMAC play with a 14-6 victory over the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team Saturday afternoon on the MHC Turf.
Coast Guard (5-1, 2-0 NEWMAC) won its third straight game behind a 36-18 advantage in shots over Mount Holyoke (4-2, 0-2 NEWMAC) and a 16-6 edge in draw controls.
Joely Schaumloffel contributed two goals, two assists and four caused turnovers for Coast Guard, while Rileigh Leary, Isabella Judge, and Elizabeth Pearcy tallied two points apiece. Ella Campbell controlled six draws for the Bears.
Senior Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) had three goals and two assists to lead the host Lyons. Sophomore Juliana Spaulding (Wakefield, Mass.) added a goal with team highs in ground balls (4), draw controls (4) and caused turnovers (3).
The game was tied 2-2 through the first 19 minutes, but the Bears scored three straight times in less than two minutes, maintaining possession throughout, to seize a 5-2 lead with 8:39 to go in the half. McAllister tallied her first goal of the game with 6:12 to go in the half for a 6-2 lead.
Bisson fed MHC sophomore defender Allison Del Sarto (Issaquah, Wash.) over the middle for Del Sarto's first goal of the season, interrupting Coast Guard's streak temporarily. But McAllister, the Bears' leading scorer, struck for two more goals in the final minute of the half, both on feeds from Schaumloffel, to give Coast Guard an 8-3 lead at intermission.
Lyons senior Elle Mader (Cincinnati, Ohio) opened the second-half scoring with her ninth tally of the season, assisted by first-year Molly McSharry (West Orange, N.J.), to make it 8-4 at the 9:20 mark.
But Mount Holyoke could get no closer the rest of the way. The Bears' Ella Campbell won the ensuing draw and Warnke scored to return a five-goal advantage to Coast Guard 33 seconds after Mader's goal. McAllister then found the back of the net at the 5:59 and 3:41 marks of the third quarter, her fourth and fifth tallies of the game, to open up an 11-4 lead for the visitors.
Coast Guard outscored Mount Holyoke 3-2 in the fourth quarter for a final margin of 14-6. Bisson netted the game's final goal with under 40 seconds remaining, her 24th of the season.
Mount Holyoke sophomore Valeria Bolanos (Newington, Conn.) had 11 saves to help keep the Lyons in the game most of the way. Kailee Heron made three saves over three quarters for the Bears, and Kaelyn Krozy made two saves in the fourth quarter.
Coast Guard won its seventh straight game against Mount Holyoke, moving to 7-3 in the teams' all-time series. This was the teams' closest contest since 2019: Coast Guard's previous four wins against Mount Holyoke came by an average goal differential of 14.8 goals per contest.
Wednesday at 6pm, Mount Holyoke will host Clark University.
