CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The MIT Engineers raced out to a 10-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game en route to a 21-2 victory over the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barry Field.

MIT's Ashley Thomas had five goals and an assist before 10 minutes had expired in the game, while Jillian Butler and Annika Lam scored two apiece. Mount Holyoke only possessed the ball three times during that span and turned the ball over in each case before attempting a shot.

With the game's outcome virtually decided, MIT added one more goal before the end of the period. Lam then scored three of the Engineers' five goals in the second quarter as the hosts built a commanding 16-0 lead. After outshooting Mount Holyoke 20-0 in the first quarter, MIT outshot MHC 7-1 in both the second and third quarters, then 4-2 in the final period, for a final 38-4 difference.

MIT (7-2, 4-0 NEWMAC) remains unbeaten in NEWMAC play and appears to be the conference frontrunner this season. The Engineers received votes in this week's IWLCA national Division III poll.

Mount Holyoke (5-3, 1-3 NEWMAC) broke into the scoring column with back-to-back goals by senior captain Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) in the fourth quarter. The NEWMAC leader in points per game, Bisson has at least two points in every game this season. Bisson also had a team-high four drawn controls.

Thomas led MIT with five goals and three assists, and Lam also scored five goals. Lydia Birknes, Cecilia McCarthy and Butler had two goals apiece, and Gwen Flusche had four assists. Laura Day had a game-high six drawn controls for the Engineers.

Sophomore Valeria Bolanos (Newington, Conn.) made six saves for Mount Holyoke during the first three quarters; sophomore Theo Gillette (Portland, Ore.) made one save in the fourth quarter.

The Lyons will return home for two games in the coming week, with Springfield visiting Wednesday at 6pm and Wheaton visiting next Saturday at 12pm, when the Lyons will celebrate Senior Day.
