SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Springfield College played outstanding transition defense and got three or more goals from four different players as the visiting Pride defeated the Mount Holyoke lacrosse team 18-7 in NEWMAC play Wednesday night on the MHC Turf.

Springfield (4-6, 2-2 NEWMAC) snapped a three-game skid with the win, while Mount Holyoke (5-4, 1-4 NEWMAC) lost its second straight game.

Liz Neri and Olivia Zalinsky scored two times apiece in the second quarter as the Pride took control of the game, outscoring the Lyons 8-1 to take a 13-2 lead into halftime. After Neri's free-position goal with 59 seconds remaining sent the game into a running clock, Zalinsky added one more goal at the halftime buzzer.

Springfield expanded its lead to 16-2 with third-quarter goals by Payton Imhof, Sophie Adams and Molly Forrest, before Mount Holyoke found its footing and was able to cut into the Pride lead over the remaining 25 minutes.

Sophomore Juliana Spaulding (Wakefield, Mass.) netted her second goal of the game and 21st of the season unassisted with 3:30 left in the third period, for the start of a 5-2 Mount Holyoke run over the game's final 19 minutes.

Sophomore defender Josie McFadden (Edmonton, Alberta) followed by picking off a Springfield clearing pass and charging in to score her second goal of the season, closing the gap to 16-4 with 1:01 left in the third quarter.
