OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -- Senior Emi Bisson had five goals and four assists while first-year Molly McSharry had three goals and four assists as the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team routed SUNY Old Westbury 17-5 in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon.
The Lyons evened their record to 6-6, increasing their highest win total since the 2019 team went 7-9. The host Panthers dropped to 0-9. It was the first meeting between the teams.
Mount Holyoke outshot Old Westbury 36-13 in the game, including a 12-2 difference in the first quarter, when the Lyons built a 5-1 lead. Bisson (Chester, Conn.) scored the game's first tally 54 seconds in, then assisted sophomore Helena Robinson's (Gales Ferry, Conn.) go-ahead goal midway through the first period. McSharry (West Orange, N.J.) got into the act with a goal assisted by Robinson with 3:47 to go in the period, and the Lyons added two goals to their lead in the 13th minute, both with McSharry assisting Bisson.
McSharry fed Bisson once again to start off the scoring in the second quarter, and the Lyons made it 9-1 with 10:42 to go in the half with successive goals by sophomore Juliana Spaulding (Wakefield, Mass.), McSharry, and junior Mackenzie Hillman (Newington, Conn.).
The Panthers' Ciana Kunen scored her second goal with 2:58 left in the half to make it 9-2, but McSharry's third goal of the half restored the Lyons' eight-goal lead at 10-2 before intermission.
The third quarter was highlighted by senior defender Jane Harmon's (Ashburnham, Mass.) first career goal, scored with junior Teya Broad-Wright's (McIntosh, Fla.) first career assist. The two Lyons are also teammates on the MHC soccer team.
Sophomore defender Allison Del Sarto (Issaquah, Wash.) joined the scoring before the end of the quarter, then added an assist to Broad-Wright and a second goal, assisted by Bisson, in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore goalie Valeria Bolanos (Newington, Conn.) made four saves for MHC, and sophomore Josie McFadden (Edmonton, Alberta) had four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Bisson now has a career-high 77 points on 38 goals and a career-high 39 assists. After notching her 100th career assist in MHC's previous game at Salve Regina, Bisson is up to 162 goals, 104 assists and 266 points in her stellar career.
Kunen finished with three goals for SUNY Old Westbury, and Katia Maisonneuve added two. Panthers goalie Jara Gonzalez made nine saves.
The Lyons return to NEWMAC play on Wednesday 6pm at Wellesley.
