Rimando gets indoor PR in long jump as track and field season opens at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College track and field team competed in its first indoor meet of the 2025-26 academic year on Saturday at Springfield College, starting the year off well as the Lyons competed against athletes from Springfield, Franklin Pierce, Smith, Westfield State, and Fitchburg State.

Senior captain Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii), who completed an All-NEWMAC volleyball season a month ago, returned to her first track meet since the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships, and showed she was ready for a strong senior season. Rimando had a personal indoor best in the long jump, with a top effort of 5.20 meters (17'07.75"), third best among 12 competitors. Rimando moved up from seventh place to fifth on the Lyons' all-time performance list in the event, passing Aria Mallare (2023) and Donari Yahzid (2017).

Other Mount Holyoke highlights included:

  • Senior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) finished fifth among 16 runners in the 3,000 meters, in 11:20.43.
  • Junior Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) placed 19th among 29 sprinters in the 60 meters, in a career-best 8.84 seconds.
  • Sophomore Bridget Hughes (North Easton, Mass.) placed third out of five runners in the 600 meters (1:51.14).
  • Sophomore Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) led four Lyons runners in the mile, placing 14th out of 19 in 6:03.34.
  • Senior captain Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) led three Lyons in the shot put, placing 14th out of 22 athletes in a career-best 8.28 meters (27'2").
  • Senior Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) placed 10th out of 18 competitors in the weight throw, with a top effort of 11.46 meters (37'7.25").

The Lyons' next meet will be Jan. 17 at Tufts University for the Branwen Smith-King Invitational.
