WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College enjoyed one first-place finish and achieved several career-best marks on Saturday, as the Lyons competed with student-athletes from four other colleges at the Jerry Gravel Invitational at Westfield State University.
The meet included Wellesley, Western New England, Westfield State, and Worcester State in addition to Mount Holyoke.
Highlights for the Lyons included:
- Sophomore Annika Lackstrom (Lebanon, N.H.) finished first among four competitors in the 3,000 steeplechase, with a time of 12:53.58.
- Senior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) placed second out of 17 athletes in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.41 meters (17'9"). Rimando also placed third out of 10 athletes in the triple jump in 11.19 meters (36'8.5").
- Senior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) finished fifth out of 17 runners in the 1,500 meters in a career-best time of 5:05.58.
- Sophomore Bridget Hughes (Easton, Mass.) ran the 800 meters in a career-best 2:34.15 to place sixth out of 18 runners.
- Senior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) took fourth place among 11 runners in the 5,000 meters in 19:51.69.
- Senior Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) led four Lyons in the shot put, finishing ninth out of 19 with a top effort of 8.82 meters (28'11.25"). McLaughlin also placed 10th in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 32.87 meters (107'10").
- Senior Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) placed ninth out of 15 athletes in the hammer throw with a top effort of 33.30 meters (109'3"). Tetzlaff also placed 12th in the discus throw at 23.78 meters (78'0").
- Junior Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) finished ninth out of 18 runners in the 200 meters in a season-best time of 29.02 seconds. Jaravaza also ran the 100 hurdles in 19.47 seconds.
The Lyons will compete next Saturday starting at 10:30am at the MHC-Smith-Wellesley Tri-Meet at Wellesley College.
