NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Mount Holyoke College senior Elle Rimando scored for the second straight day of the NEWMAC Track & Field Championships on Saturday as a meet marked by several big personal-best marks for the Lyons concluded at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) fought off cramping in the cold weather to place fifth in the triple jump on Saturday, earning four team points with a top effort of 11.19 meters (36'8.5"), tying her best of the season.
On Friday, Rimando took fourth place in the long jump to score five team points at 5.31 meters (17'5.25").
Mount Holyoke's nine team points put the Lyons four points behind ninth-place Salve Regina (13) in the final team standings.
Other Mount Holyoke standout performances included:
- Junior Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) gave an outstanding effort competing in her first collegiate heptathlon, finishing one place out of the scoring in ninth place with 2,594 points, 37 behind eighth place. Jaravaza entered Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the event in sixth place.
- Sophomore Bridget Hughes (Easton, Mass.) smashed their personal best time in the 800 meters by 2.91 seconds, finishing 20th in 2:31.24.
- Senior Tess Marini-Rapoport (Northampton, Mass.) finished 23rd in the 1,500 meters in 5:33.46, obliterating her previous best time of 5:40.18.
- Senior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) placed 19th in the 5,000 meters in a personal best time of 19:24.56, chopping her previous PR down by 11.41 seconds.
- Senior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) took ninth place out of 18 runners in the 10,000 meters, finishing one place out of the scoring in 40:47.41.
- Sophomore Annika Lackstrom (Lebanon, N.H.) finished 14th in the 10,000 meters in 41:42.21.
- Seniors Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) and Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) placed 23rd (30.12 meters) and 24th (28.06 meters), respectively, in the hammer throw. McLaughlin also placed 22nd in the shot put (8.57 meters).
Mount Holyoke will compete at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield College May 1-2.
