Lyons achieve a slew of personal bests at Amherst Spring Fling

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke track and field team piled up the personal record performances on Saturday at the Amherst College Spring Fling, a non-scoring meet that included student-athletes from a host of top Division III programs.

Amherst, Bates, Brandeis, Bridgewater State, Middlebury, Plattsburgh State, RPI, St. Olaf, Thomas, Tufts, and Wesleyan joined Mount Holyoke at the meet.

Highlight performances by Mount Holyoke included:

  • Senior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) made her outdoor season debut and placed fifth out of 15 athletes in the triple jump with a long attempt of 10.98 meters (36'0.25"), putting her among the top 50 in Division III this season.
  • Rimando also placed 15th out of 31 student-athletes in the long jump, going 4.96 meters (16'3.25") on her first attempt.
  • Senior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) ran a personal-best time of 19:00.82 in the 5,000 meters to take 26th place among 35 runners.
  • Sophomore Annika Lackstrom (Lebanon, N.H.) finished 29th in the 5,000 meters in a personal-best time of 19:31.08.
  • Senior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) ran the 1,500 meters in a personal-best time of 5:16.57, 39th out of 46 runners.
  • Senior Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) placed 19th out of 24 throwers in the hammer (32.02 meters). McLaughlin also led six Lyons in the shot put with a top effort of 7.82 meters (25'8").
  • First-year Marin Lambert (Bothell, Wash.) ran a personal-best time of 5:25.44 in the 1,500 meters, taking 44th place in the event.
  • Junior Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) placed 12th in the 400 meters in 1:05.99, and placed 27th out of 42 runners in the 200 meters (29.07).
  • Sophomore Bridget Hughes (Easton, Mass.) placed 40th in the 200 meters in 31.01 seconds.
  • Senior Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) placed 23rd in the hammer throw (27.91 meters).

The Lyons compete next Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Invitational at Westfield State University.
