Lyons excel in the triple jump, mile, and 600 at Mary Grinaker Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke track and field team competed well, particularly in the triple jump, mile, and 600 meters, in a non-scoring meet at Smith College on Saturday, the Mary Grinaker Invitational. The meet included athletes from Smith, Fitchburg State, Franklin Pierce, Hampshire, Lasell, Westfield State and Worcester State.

Highlights for Mount Holyoke included:

  • Senior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) triple jumped just 2 centimeters shy of her career indoor best as she took first place among 13 competitors in the triple jump with a top effort of 11.21 meters (36'9.5"). The mark put Rimando in 26th place in the national Division III rankings.
  • Sophomore Katherine Herring (Lebanon, N.H.) took first place among 16 competitors in her first collegiate mile, with a time of 5:32.00.
  • Sophomore Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed second out of 18 runners in the 600 meters, with a new personal best time of 1:44.90. Robinson moved ahead of Brianna Weir (2014) into eighth place on MHC's all-time performance list in the event.
  • Sophomore Bridget Hughes (Easton, Mass.) placed fifth out of 18 runners in the 600 meters, in 1:48.46.
  • Sophomore Annika Lackstrom (New London, N.H.) took fourth place in the mile in 5:43.43.
  • Junior Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) placed 12th out of 26 runners in the 200 meters in a season-best 29.35 seconds.
  • Senior Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) led five Lyons in the shot put, placing 16th at 7.83 meters (25'8.25"). McLaughlin also placed 12th in the weight throw at 9.45 meters (31'0.0").
  • Senior Tess Marini-Rapoport (Northampton, Mass.) placed seventh in the mile, knocking more than 8 seconds off of her personal best time at 5:57.76.

The Lyons will compete next Saturday, Feb. 7 starting at 10:30am at Wheaton College.
