SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College was represented at two meets in a busy weekend for the Lyons, with two seniors posting championship qualifying times in the 10,000 meters at Bryant University on Friday, and most of the rest of the team competing Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at American International College.
Yellow Jacket Invitational Highlights
- Sophomore Annika Lackstrom (Lebanon, N.H.) ran the 1,500 meters in a personal-best 5:18.21, fifth out of 17 runners.
- Senior Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) placed 10th out of 24 athletes in the hammer throw, with a top mark of 32.12 meters (105'4"). McLaughlin also led four Lyons in the shot put, placing 19th out of 47 in 8.25 meters (27'1").
- Junior Dalia Luckhardt (Cerritos, Calif.) and sophomore Bridget Hughes (Easton, Mass.) placed fifth (2:35.95) and sixth (2:36.13), respectively, among 16 runners in the 800 meters.
- Junior Thandi-Wanj Delgado-Kinyatti (South Hadley, Mass.) was 20th in the shot put at 8.18 meters (26'10").
- Junior Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) placed 16th out of 30 athletes in the 400 meters in 1:09.56. Jaravaza also long jumped 3.99 meters (13'1.25").
- First-year Sadie Mahon-Moore (Northampton, Mass.) placed 22nd among 32 athletes in the discus throw after winning her flight at 17.37 meters (57'0").
- First-year Julianne Markee (Easthampton, Mass.) ran the 400 hurdles in 1:23.71.
Jaylin Rainford Invitational
Mount Holyoke seniors Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) and Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) both qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the 10,000 meters on Friday, as they both notched career-best times in the event at Bryant University's Jaylin Rainford Invitational in Smithfield, R.I.
Racing distance runners from Bryant, Tufts, Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and UMass-Boston, West finished in 39:51.51 with Earle close behind in 39:58.31. Earle began the day ranked 10th on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the event with her former PR of 40:24.01, yet was replaced in 10th place on the list by West despite the improved time.
Mount Holyoke will compete next Saturday, April 4 at the Amherst College Spring Fling beginning at 11am.
