WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Senior Elle Rimando won both the long jump and triple jump to highlight the Mount Holyoke track and field team's efforts at the MHC-Smith-Wellesley Tri-Meet Saturday at Wellesley College.
Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) had a top effort of 5.31 meters (17'5.25") in the long jump, first among nine competitors by 28 centimeters over the runner-up. Rimando then triple jumped 10.81 meters (35'5.75") to win the event by 54 centimeters.
Rimando scored 10 team points under the meet's 5-3-2-1 scoring system. The Lyons finished third at the meet with 15 points
Other scoring and/or standout performances by the Lyons included:
- Senior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) took fourth place among 12 runners in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:05.85, scoring a point for the Lyons.
- Junior Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) placed fourth in the 400 meters in 1:08.47 and also finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in 19.76 seconds for a point in each event. She also placed seventh in the 200 meters (29.33) and recorded a personal-best mark of 4.31 meters (14'2.25") in the long jump.
- First-year Julianne Markee (Easthampton, Mass.) placed fourth in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:20.94.
- First-year Amina Kudaibergen (Astana, Kazakhstan) finished fourth in the high jump (1.17 meters).
- Senior Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) led four Lyons in the shot put, placing fifth at 8.56 meters (28'1"). McLaughlin also placed fifth in the hammer throw at 32.47 meters (106'6").
The Lyons travel to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for the NEWMAC Track & Field Championships taking place Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, with an 11am start time on both days.
